I still remember the frustration in a classmate’s eyes
during primary school when asked to aloud.
He was bright, perhaps even brilliant but the letters seemed
to blur on the page for him. At the time, I didn’t understand
it. Now, I realize he may have been silently battling
dyslexia. The C-Pen Reader is a pocket sized, portable
scanner pen that reads printed text aloud. For learners with
dyslexia or other reading difficulties, this tool becomes a
lifeline. It empowers them to read independently without always relying on a teacher or peer. That kind
of autonomy builds more than just literacy- it builds confidence. What struck me most about this tool is
how unobtrusive and personalized it is. In inclusive classrooms, we strive to support diverse learners
without making them feel singled out. The C-Pen achieves that balance. It looks like a regular pen but
holds the power to unlock entire textbooks for students who previously found reading inaccessible.

child’s dignity. It’s a subtle support, allowing students to
keep pace with their peers while developing their reading
skills at their own level. However, it’s limitations must be
acknowledged. While it supports printed English text, it
doesn’t help with handwritten notes or digital content and it
may not be as useful in multilingual settings like here in
Bhutan where students learn in Dzongkha.
